Charlie Mason was born, raised, and educated here in Springfield, Missouri. Having always had a love of music, Charlie was bit hard by the "radio bug" while working as a manager for a marketing company in 1995. Tossing away 3 generations of family heritage, Charlie turned up his nose at the thought of becoming a Pharmacist like his dad, grand-dad, and great-grand dad, and he started working nights as a volunteer disc jockey at a local AM radio station. The station had no ratings and the only pay was free coffee, but he enjoyed every minute of it (except for the crazy General Manager who would blow a blood vessel if anyone ate his last chocolate doughnut)!
Over the next 5 years, Charlie called several different radio stations "home." However, after his news cruiser caught on fire and burned to the ground while he was out covering a lumber yard fire, and after he helped the Springfield Police Department catch a bank robbery suspect, he decided it was time to look for greener pastures. Charlie became News Director for a cluster of radio stations, then moved into the Public Relations field with several non-profit organizations. He is thrilled to be back on the air at Bass Country 92.9 playing the music he loves.
Charlie has been heavily involved with the Springfield community. He is currently Director of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Ritual Cast, a former member of the Springfield Planning & Zoning Commision, a former member of the Downtown Springfield Association, and is also a former board member of the Parenting Life Skills Center. Charlie is a Past Master of United #5 Masonic Lodge, co-chair of the Valley of Joplin Scottish Rite Membership Committee, Past President of the Metropolitan Scottish Rite Club, the Chapter Dad for Farnsworth Chapter, Order of DeMolay - a young men's fraternity that teaches young men to be better men, and he also serves DeMolay as the Area 4 Governor for Southwest Missouri, and the State Director of Planned Giving and Public Relations.
